Basketball Nabs Mid Major Top 25 Spot

DENTON, Texas - The season's inaugural Mid Major Top 25 poll was released on Monday, and the Mean Green basketball team garnered its highest-ever ranking - No. 15.

Winners of at least 20 games in each of the last four seasons, North Texas is coming off a school record 24-win season and its second Sun Belt championship and NCAA Tournament berth in the last four years. The Mid Major Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 31 mid major head coaches from around the nation, including Kermit Davis of Middle Tennessee.

Sun Belt foe Western Kentucky checks in at No. 17, while other 2010-11 opponents Sam Houston State, Denver, South Alabama, Jackson State, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, UALR and Arkansas State appear among others receiving votes.

North Texas opens the 2010-11 season against Henderson State on Nov. 12 at noon before raising its championship banners against Texas Tech on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
