Mitchell Begins NBA Combine Workouts Thursday

CHICAGO – Former North Texas basketball standout Tony Mitchell will put his athleticism on display this week at the 2013 NBA Draft Combine.

Mitchell was one of 60-plus athletes invited by the NBA to showcase their talents from Thursday, May 16 until Sunday, May 19. Participants will be tested in a wide range of skills including vertical jump, bench press, agility and speed, for NBA teams and the media.

The NBA Draft is slated for Thursday, June 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Mitchell, who boasts a 7-foot-3 wingspan and a 41 inch vertical, rewrote the Mean Green blocked shots record (157 career) in just two seasons in Denton, and earned unanimous Preseason All-America honors last fall. He finished his career ranked 10th in the nation among all active players with a career rebounding average of 9.2 per game, and added 13.7 points on 49.0 percent shooting.

The Dallas Pinkston High School graduate is looking to become the first North Texas player since John Horrocks in 1984 to be selected in the NBA Draft. Kenneth Lyons, a second-round pick in 1983, is the highest selected Mean Green player to date.
