UNT's Davis Picked As Unanimous All-Sun Belt Conference

University of North Texas junior guard Chris Davis is one of two players to be unanimously selected to the 2001-02 Sun Belt Conference All-Conference Team, the league announced Tuesday.

Davis, who has led the Sun Belt in scoring all season and is ranked No. 11 in the country with a 22.3 points per game average, becomes North Texas’ first player to earn all-conference honors. The Mean Green (14-13, 8-7) are in their second season of competing in the Sun Belt Conference.

Davis was the only North Texas player picked for post-season honors. A 10-player All-Conference Team and five-member Honorable Mention team were voted on by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and selected media. New Orleans junior forward Hector Romero joined Davis as the only players to be unanimously selected to the all-conference squad.

This season Davis, a graduate of Dallas Kimball High School, became the first player in North Texas history to lead the Mean Green in scoring, rebounding and assists. He has led the Sun Belt in scoring all season and is the only player ranked in the top 15 in scoring, rebounding and assists in the conference.

The Mean Green are preparing for this weekend’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament in New Orleans. North Texas opens tournament play Friday at 2:00 p.m. against Florida International at Lakefront Arena on the campus of the University of New Orleans.
