DENTON, Texas (3/03/09) North Texas forward Eric Tramiel was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Arguably the conference’s most versatile player, Tramiel is the Sun Belt’s only newcomer and one of just two players overall to average over 12.0 points per game and have at least 20 assists and 20 blocks. The former First-Team NJCAA All-American is shooting 59.0 percent from the floor in 2008-09, which leads all SBC newcomers and ranks fourth overall in the league.
“We are excited about Eric being named to the All-Sun Belt team,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. “We are glad that the coaches and the media recognized his value to our team. It is a great honor for Eric, and one that is well deserved.”
Tramiel snagged his fourth double-double of the year at Denver with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Electric in 2009, the Shreveport, La., native is averaging 14.3 points and 7.6 rebounds on 58.8 percent shooting since the New Year.
North Texas has now had a player named to an All-Sun Belt squad in each of Jones’ eight years with the program.
The No. 4 seed Mean Green returns to the hardwood in Sun Belt Tournament first-round action on Wednesday night versus No. 13 Florida Atlantic. Tip off from the Super Pit is slated for 7 p.m. and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
