Trojans Knock Off Mean Green In SBC Tournament 72-55




MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (3/3/06) Arkansas-Little Rock ended the season for the North Texas men’s basketball team with a 72-55 victory in the first round of the 2006 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament. North Texas closes the season with a record of 14-14.

 

“They (UALR) came out extremely focused and played a really great basketball game,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. “They forced us out of our comfort zone and we just didn’t play strong enough with the basketball”.

 

Leading 17-15 with 8:45 left in the first half, Arkansas-Little Rock went on a 15-1 run over the next four minutes to take a 32-16 lead. North Texas fought back to cut the Trojan lead to 10 points at 37-27 until Rashad Jones-Jennings ended the first half with a dunk and completed a three-point play with no time left on the first half clock to make it 40-27.

 

Arkansas-Little Rock extended their lead in the second half to 20 points at 54-34 with 12:45 remaining in the game.

 

North Texas never got any closer than 17 points in the second half as Arkansas-Little Rock held North Texas to just 35 percent shooting for the game.

 

Calvin Watson scored a team-high 16 points and Kendrick Davis added 10 points for the Mean Green.
