Mean Green Looking For 20th Win On Senior Night This Thursday

DENTON, Texas (2/23/10) - North Texas moved into a tie for the Sun Belt Conference lead just in time for senior night. On Thursday night before tipping off with Louisiana-Lafayette, the Mean Green will pay tribute to Eric Tramiel and Antwone Matlock, two NT seniors that have given so much to the program. Tip off from the Super Pit is slated for 7 p.m.

The Mean Green slid into the tie with Middle Tennessee and Troy for the best record in the league courtesy of last Saturday's 83-65 win over UALR. NT, winners of six straight games, can guarantee the program's first Sun Belt West Division crown and a first-round bye in the conference tournament with wins over Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday and at ULM on Saturday.

Quick Hitters

  • With two regular season games and the SBC Tourney remaining, NT is just one win shy of an unprecedented fourth straight 20-win season. Already the winningest four-year stretch in the program's history, NT has notched a .500 record or better in each of the last six years - the most by NT since 1931.
  • Tristan Thompson's streak of double-digit games finally came to an end, but not by much. The junior had nine points against UALR, breaking a streak of 18 straight in double-figures. Thompson ranks sixth in the SBC with 17.0 points per conference game.
  • North Texas' current six-game win streak is entering uncharted territory. The longest of the Johnny Jones era (2001-present), this current streak is the longest since the 1991-92 squad won eight straight games. NT has won 10 of its last 12 games.
  • Louisiana-Lafayette holds a slim 16-13 margin in the all-time series with North Texas, but the Mean Green has taken six of the last eight meetings, including both games in 2008-09.
  • Since joining the Sun Belt, North Texas is 7-3 against Louisiana-Lafayette at the Super Pit, with wins in each of the last five meetings. The Ragin' Cajuns haven't beaten NT at the Super Pit since Feb. 3, 2005.
