LAFAYETTE, La. (2/24/07) With Sun Belt Conference Tournament seeding still up in the air, North Texas (18-10, 9-8) wraps up regular season play tonight at Louisiana-Lafayette (9-19, 7-10). Tipoff against the Ragin’ Cajuns, who fell to North Texas 73-72 in overtime in Jan., is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CST and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.

With one game remaining on the regular season schedule, one thing is for sure about North Texas’ Sun Belt Tournament first round game it will be at The Super Pit. The Mean Green secured a home game in the opening round, and depending on its finish tonight, can enter the tournament as high as the fifth seed and as low as the eighth.

Standing in NT’s way is Louisiana-Lafayette. The Ragin’ Cajuns are lead by a pair of elite scorers in David Dees and Ross Mouton. Both men average 17 points per game and will look to guide ULL well into the SBC tourney, which is hosted by the Cajuns.

The Ragin’ Cajuns enjoy a 14-8 all-time edge over the Mean Green, despite January’s overtime win at The Super Pit. Kendrick Davis connected on a three-point play to send the game into the extra frame, and nailed another to clinch the 73-72 win for the Mean Green.

Mean Green guard Calvin Watson is 53 points away from notching the 25th 500-point season in school history. Watson has recorded a career-high 447 points this season while cementing himself as the program’s all-time 3-point king. The senior’s former teammate Leonard Hopkins was the last NT player to score 500 points in a season when he tallied 508 in 2004-05. Watson is currently second on the single season 3-point list with 78 on the year.

An example of North Texas’ team-first mentality, the Mean Green is only a few swats away from having three players join the single-season top-10 list in blocked shots. NT already has two players, Rich Young and Quincy Williams, tied for 10th place with 29 on the season. Keith Wooden isn’t far behind with 27 blocks, which ties for 11th place. North Texas leads the Sun Belt and ranks 45th nationally with 4.5 bpg, and has tied the single-game block record at 11 twice this year.
