JONESBORO, Ark. - Needing a win to keep its hopes of a bye in the opening round of Sun Belt Tournament, North Texas heads to Jonesboro to face Arkansas State.

Tip off from the Convocation Center is slated for 7 p.m. and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.

Arkansas State holds a slim 18-15 margin in the all-time series with North Texas after the Mean Green took a lopsided 83-64 win in Jan. NT has won seven of the last nine matchups with ASU dating back to the 2007 Sun Belt Championship game. Since joining the Sun Belt in 2000 NT is 4-2 in ASU's Convocation Center.

On the hardwood, ASU's Martavius Adams has developed into a formidable post presence. The 6-8 Oklahoma State transfer is leading the Red Wolves with 11.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, and is shooting 49.6 percent from the floor.

This game carries large implications for next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament. NT is currently the West's No. 5 seed and the Red Wolves are at No. 2. NT is 2.5 games behind DU, ASU and ULL for first.

This is the first of three trips for NT to the Natural State in a nine day span that will cover a round trip of 2,188 miles. NT will also head to Little Rock to take on UALR on Monday, and will travel to Hot Springs on Thursday evening for the SBC Tournament.

Josh White and Tristan Thompson have shared a friendly rivalry since arriving at NT in '07, and White has had the upper hand in most categories until now. Thompson, who ranks 16th in the NCAA in free throws made, passed White in career free throws with his 8-of-10 performance from the line against ULM. The Angleton native leads White 466-464 and sits in 5th place in NT history.
