DENTON (2/16/05) - The North Texas men's and women's basketball teams host a doubleheader on Thursday night at the Super Pit. The men host Denver at 7:30 pm, while the women play Louisiana-Lafayette to start the action at 5 pm.
The men's game is the first of four straight Sun Belt Conference West Division games to close out the regular season. The Mean Green will play three of its final four regular-season games at home, where it is 7-5 this season, before hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Every regular-season North Texas game can be heard live on KWRD (100.7 FM) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
The North Texas men snapped a two-game skid with a 103-44 victory over UT-Permian Basin on Monday in its final non-conference game of the regular season. With the win, the Mean Green tied its most non-conference victories since the 1982-83 season when it had eight.
The Pioneers are in a tie for first in the western division with a 9-2 Sun Belt record and have won eight of their last 10 games. Denver's only setbacks have come on the road against New Orleans (61-71) and Western Kentucky (79-84).
The North Texas women clash with the Ragin Cajuns for the second time this season in potentially the most important game of the year for the Mean Green. Louisiana-Lafayette holds a one-game lead over North Texas in the Sun Belt Conference West Division standing. A win by the Mean Green would even the race for the top spot with just three games remaining for both teams.
North Texas will say good-bye to senior Dorota Klat as she plays in her final home game at the Super Pit. Klat, the lone senior on the Mean Green roster, will leave after spending two full seasons with North Texas after transferring from Seminole Junior College. Klat has recorded career-highs this season in points with six and rebounds with eight against Arkansas State.
The Mean Green softball team will be signing autographs in between the women's and men's basketball games at the Fun Zone, located near Gate E.
