Mean Green Looking For Revenge At Florida International

LISTEN LIVE!

MIAMI (2/6/10) - Florida Atlantic came into the Super Pit on Thursday as the hottest team in the Sun Belt, but left with an 86-69 loss to the Mean Green. Five of North Texas' last six opponents have either been in first or second place in their respective Sun Belt division at tip time. Unfazed, the Mean Green  is 4-2 over that span. Now NT looks for a measure of revenge against FIU, which knocked off North Texas 80-70 in overtime back in December.

North Texas and FIU will tip from U.S. Century Bank Arena at 1 p.m. Central. Pregame on the Mean Green Radio Network will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Quick Hitters

  • North Texas head coach Johnny Jones notched his 140th career win at NT with Thursday's win over Florida Atlantic. In his ninth year at North Texas, Jones ranks second in school history in career wins.
  • The Mean Green shot an incredible 63.8 percent from the floor against FAU on Thursday night, which is the fourth highest shooting percentage in school history and the third best performance in a Sun Belt game this year.
  • George Odufuwa was one rebound shy of his fifth consecutive double-double after posting 14 points and nine rebounds against FAU on Thursday night. The junior has 10 career double-doubles and is averaging 11.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game this year. That average ranks the junior 15th in the nation on the boards and makes him one of just 24 in the NCAA averaging a double-double. At this rate of 10.4 rebounds per game, Odufuwa should challenge for one of the top five seasons on the glass in program history.
  • You might have heard of FIU's first-year coach, Isiah Thomas. The 12-time NBA All-Star was selected one of the league's best 50 players of All-Time, is enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and had his No. 11 jersey retired by the Detroit Pistons. He led Indiana to an NCAA national title in 1981, and was selected No. 2 overall by the Pistons. Thomas is donating his 2009-10 salary back to FIU.
  • North Texas leads the all-time record with the Golden Panthers, 8-3, including wins in each of the last two seasons.
  • FIU leads the SBC and ranks 49th in the nation with 8.2 steals per game. Phil Gary leads FIU with 1.8 steals per game.
