NORTH TEXAS vs. LOUISIANA LAFAYETTE

Saturday, January 12, 2008 / The Super Pit

HEAD COACH JOHNNY JONES QUOTES

“I knew this would be a hard-fought game for us.  Lafayette has gotten off to a fast start in conference and continue to play very well.  I thought a real key was the play of “Q” Quincy Williams. He scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for us.  His defensive play was even better as we were short-handed with Keith (Wooden).  We again had some guys step up for us.  Adam McCoy came in and gave us a spark and both Collin (Dennis) and Josh (White) were a bit under the weather so all-in-all this was a great win for us,”

Regarding Wooden

“Keith rolled his ankle in the game against Arkansas State and wasn’t 100%.  This is a long season and we thought it best to rest him tonight.  In addition to Quincy, I thought Justin (Howerton), Harold (Stewart) and Kedrick (Hogans) all played well in the post area for us,”

On a playoff atmosphere tonight

It is always tough against Lafayette.  We had a couple real tough games with them last year and I think they look forward to playing us,”

On the team overall

We are not where we would like to be at this time, but we are getting close.  Our guys practice hard and we are getting better.   We play in a great league that has great balance so we have to continue to grow and mature as a team to be successful.
