Mean Green Basketball Teams In Action Tonight At Little Rock

Little Rock, AR (1/4/07) - The North Texas men's and women's basketball teams face Arkansas Little Rock in doubleheader action tonight on the road. The women's game will tip-off at 5:15 pm and can be heard on KNTU radio (88.1), while the men's game will be broadcast by the Mean Green Radio Network (100.7 FM) following the first game.

Something will have to give on Thursday as the North Texas men, the nation’s 13th best rebounding team, will face off against UALR’s Rashad Jones-Jennings, the country’s leading individual rebounder. NT leads the Sun Belt with 40.9 boards per game, while Jones-Jennings is averaging 12.7 a contest. He ranked third in the country last season with 11.3 rebounds per game.

North Texas, which leads the Sun Belt with a 48.8 field goal percentage, produced two of the top five shooting performances in school history in the month of December in posting a 6-1 record, the program’s most wins in December since 1980-81 (7). The Mean Green shot 65.9 percent in the win over Stephen F. Austin and hit at a 62.3 clip against Denver.

The Mean Green is the Sun Belt’s top offensive club, averaging a league-leading 82.2 points per game and 48.8 shooting percentage. North Texas sits at 104 in the official RPI Ratings following the win over Denver. NT, 1-1 against the RPI’s top 100 teams, earned a Sagarin rating of 115. One of the nation’s most potent benches, North Texas’ sideline is averaging 14.1 points per game more than its counterpart.

The North Texas women are back in action after 14 days off. The Mean Green returns to Sun Belt Conference play with its seventh straight road game at UALR. North Texas has not played since December 21 and had its game with Western Kentucky on December 30 postponed.

North Texas can start the Sun Belt Conference season at 2-0 for a third straight season with a win over UALR. Since joining the league in 2000 the Mean Green has been perfect through its first two league games only twice

In the four North Texas wins this season, the Mean Green has had at least three players reaching double figures in points. Against Northwestern State, four players reached double figures. The other key? Turnovers. The Mean Green turned it over just 18 times in the win, which is the second fewest in a game this season.
