JONESBORO, Ark. (1/1/2010) - Head coach Johnny Jones got his New Year's wish when his Mean Green used a clutch 23-assist performance to topple UALR 83-78. Now North Texas turns its attention across the Natural State to Arkansas State, which NT has beaten in each of the last six meetings.

North Texas has won five of its six meetings with Arkansas State at the Convocation Center. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.

  • Johnny Jones stands alone in second place in North Texas career wins after the 83-78 victory over UALR on New Year's Eve. Jones' 135th win passes NT Hall-of-Famer Bill Blakeley for second in program history.
  • Arkansas State's Convocation Center has been a home away from home for the Mean Green since it's opening in 1987. NT has won five of its six games played at the Convocation Center.
  • Johnny Jones overtook Bill Blakeley on the North Texas coaching list at UALR, but also secured his 150th career win with the victory over the Trojans. Counting his year leading the Memphis Tigers, Jones is now 150-132 in 10 years as a head coach.
  • North Texas piled up 23 assists in the 83-78 win over UALR, which ranks seventh in school history. The 23 assists are the most by a North Texas teams since it tallied 26 against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Nov. 25, 1996. All but six of NT's buckets were assisted thanks to career-high seven assist performances from Josh White and Shannon Shorter.
  • North Texas was 6-2 (75 percent) in the month of December this season, which was the fifth best December in the 92 year history of Mean Green basketball. Over the last five years, North Texas was 26-10 (72.2 percent) in December.
