Mean Green Men Lose Heartbreaker To FIU 80-70 In Overtime

DENTON, Texas (12/20/09) - The North Texas men's basketball team overcame an early 16-point deficit on Sunday afternoon only to fall to Isiah Thomas and Florida International 80-70 in overtime at the Super Pit.

With his team down three and time running down, North Texas junior Josh White banked in a long three-point shot with .4 seconds remaining to tie the score at 67-67 and force the extra period. White finished with 13 points.

Junior guard Tristan Thompson led the way for the Mean Green (6-4, 1-1), scoring a career high tying 27 points on 8-of-19 shooting.  JC Otero paced the Golden Panthers (4-10, 1-1) with a career high 18 points and 12 rebounds in 33 minutes played, also a career high.

The Mean Green trailed by 15 at halftime, but opened the second half with a 19-7 run to cut the lead to three.  Thompson scored 12 of North Teas' 19 points in the stretch.

The 23 points scored in the first half by the Mean Green marked the lowest total during a half this season.

White, a career 87 percent free throw shooter, went only 5-of-10 from the charity stripe.  He had missed only seven free throws all season coming into play.

North Texas hit a season high 10 shots from behind the arc, led by Thompsons career high 6 treys. The 30 attempts was also a season high.

The Mean Green hit the court again Tuesday night to take on Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit.
