DENTON -- The North Texas men’s basketball team returns home after three-straight road games starting with Southern Miss. Thursday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. inside the Super Pit on the American Sports Network.

NT enters with a 7-14 overall record and is 2-6 in Conference USA games. The Mean Green are looking to snap a five-game losing streak when they take on the Golden Eagles Thursday night.

Sophomore Jeremy Combs recorded his seventh-straight double-double at Rice last Saturday scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Combs leads the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game and in rebounding at 10.7 per game. The Dallas native has hit 26 of 35 free throws in his last five games good for 74 percent. Combs is 11th in the nation in rebounds per game and 14th in total rebounds (225).

Junior J-Mychal Reese is second on the team in scoring at 15.0 points per game after scoring 23 points (two off his career high) at Rice. Reese leads the team in assists at 4.1 per game (87 total). Classmate Deckie Johnson is third at 14.1 points per game and has hit a team best 43 made three pointers.

In the game against Rice, the Mean Green starters combined for 84 points with senior Eric Katenda (16 points) and freshman Ja’Michael Brown (10 points) scoring in double figures.

As a team, North Texas is 49th in the nation in field goal percentage (46.9), 31st in free throw attempts (560) and 129th in free throws made (339).

The Mean Green remain home to face LA Tech Saturday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. inside the Super Pit on the American Sports Network.

About the Opponent: Southern Miss

• This will be the 23rd meeting between the two teams with the first meeting coming on December, 18 1950. The Golden Eagles have won nine straight games against the Mean Green since 1981.

• In the last meeting, Southern Miss. rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat North Texas, 75-71, in overtime last season at the Super Pit. Then freshman Jeremy Combs had 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Former Mean Green standout Jordan Williams led the team with 19 points, including four of eight from the three point line.

• Southern Miss. has won three of its last four games improving to 4-4 in league play and is 7-12 overall. The Golden Eagles went 2-0 last week at home against UTEP (W, 71-58) and UTSA (W, 86-60).

• Southern Miss. is led by Kourtlin Jackson who is averaging 12.0 points per game and has grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game. Khari Price is second at 10.3 points per game and leads the team with 28 made three pointers. The Golden Eagles have hit a three from every player on the roster and a total of 148 on the season.
