Our Inspiration:

Frank L. Collins was a professor of psychology and the director of training for the Clinical Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine doctoral program at the University of North Texas. A long time running enthusiast, Frank died as he would have wanted: he passed away suddenly on December 19, 2009 at the age of 58 while running a 5K race with his wife and stepdaughter. Following his death a scholarship was endowed in his name and the proceeds of this race will benefit that scholarship fund.

Frank held previous positions at Oklahoma State University, Rush Medical College, and the University of West Viriginia.  Frank was involved in several state and national organizations, many of which focused on training the next generation of psychologists. He was past president of both the Oklahoma Psychological Association and the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology.

Frank had a prestigious career in research, clinical practice, and teaching. Among his many honors, Frank was awarded the “Bev Thorn Award” to recognize outstanding mentorship and leadership to the field in training clinical psychologists and was recognized by the Oklahoma Psychological Association for “Distinguished Contributions to the Profession of Psychology.”

Frank was loved by everyone who met him. Students appreciated his knowledge, but were particularly attracted to Frank’s sense of humor and engaging interpersonal style. His love for music and collection of comic books added to his character.  Simply put, Frank passed on the formalities, and instead focused on the relationships. Frank, we miss and love you!

In keeping with Frank’s passion for training student psychologists, all proceeds from the race will go toward the Frank L. Collins Scholarship Fund.
