Requirements for Certification

The following information is intended to give current UNT Teacher, Student Services, and Administrator Certification seeking students an overview of the requirements that must be completed before they are eligible for recommendation for certification by UNT. If you have specific questions regarding your academic program, you must contact your academic/program advisor or you can call the College of Education Student Advising Office at 940-565-2736 to be directed to the appropriate individual(s).

College of Education Ambassadors

COE AmbassadorsAmbassadors share their experiences in the College of Education with prospective students, current UNT students, alumni, and the UNT Denton community. They represent the college at outreach events and assist with various college-wide programs.

Each semester, Ambassadors are expected to work a number of college events, including Preview Day and Homecoming.

Seamless Transfer Education Program Sessions

Come see us and learn more about finding your perfect fit within the College of Education! Our expert panel will discuss time management, library resources, money management, advising for success, career, teacher certification, and testing. You will even have an opportunity to meet our Senior Associate Dean, Dr. Michael Sayler, at one of our sessions. Snacks and refreshment will be provided.

 

FAQs About Certification

Q: Can UNT recommend me before I apply to the Texas Education Agency?

A: No. UNT cannot submit a recommendation for teacher certification until after you apply online to the Texas Education Agency. If you never apply for teacher certification, UNT can never recommend you for teacher certification.

Admission to Teacher Education

The following process must be completed prior to enrolling in any teacher education course:

  • Students will need to be admitted to Teacher Education (TED).

  • Undergraduate students are encouraged to make an appointment with a COE advisor to complete the Teacher Education Application. Post-Baccalaureate students should contact their program for information on applying to Teacher Education.
