Compliant Cellular Materials

Using the previous research experience on cellular material design for Lunar Rover Wheel and morphing airfoil design for fuel efficiency, Compliant Cellular Materials (CCM) Group is interested in light weight and fatigue resistant cellular solids such as orthopedic implants using non-homogeneous cellular distribution while minimizing bone resorption and interfacial stresses. CCM group will also design artificial spinal disks with flexible metallic cellular solids while considering requirements of modulus and strength (strain). For sample preparation and experimental validation of 3D cellular materials, equipment using a rapid prototyping technique such as SLM, EBM and SLA, and INSTRON 8874 Axial-Torsion

Fatigue Testing Systems will be needed.
