Eagle Camp

New School, New Friends & New Experiences

Eagle Camp is an optional next step that welcomes the entering students to UNT each year with the purpose of giving them an opportunity to have fun, make friends, and learn more about life at UNT. We hope that through Eagle Camp, you will begin finding your place in the UNT Family before classes even begin!

Eagle Camp is a 3-day optional experience and tradition for incoming students that takes place at Camp Copass. Students ride buses from the UNT campus to Camp Copass, where they stay in air-conditioned, furnished cabins.

Eagle Camp is led by UNT students and staff who are passionate about making the first year of college a success for the incoming students! Every leader has valuable personal experience, so they can offer advice about classes, fun things to do in Denton, and anything else you need as you begin your journey as an Eagle!

Eagle Camp is NOT Freshman Orientation.

Why Eagle Camp?

Getting Connected

Eagle Camp is a great way for entering students to build new friendships before starting classes at UNT. Camp offers several activities and unique experiences, small group sessions and much more! Campers have multiple opportunities to get connected.

Getting Involved

Students who attend camp become involved in student organizations and serve in leadership positions throughout their college career at UNT. At camp, exceptional student leaders and staff motivate and encourage campers to contribute their time and talent in making a difference as an Eagle.

Becoming an Eagle

Eagle Camp is full of activities and events that offer students a chance to grow in their understanding of the tradition and mission of UNT. Additionally, students are directly connected to upper class eagle camp leaders who answer questions and address concerns you might have about starting college at UNT.

Become an Eagle Camp Leader!

Eagle Camp Leader applications are available now!! Click here for the application. Applications are due on Wednesday, March 30. Completed applications can be turned in the the Orientation and Transition Programs office in University Union, Suite 377. Questions should be directed to Josh Walton, Coordinator in Orientation and Transition Programs office - joshua.walton@unt.edu.

When and where is Eagle Camp?

Friday, August 12 - Sunday, August 14 at Camp Copass in Denton, Texas.

Check-in will begin at 12:00pm on Friday, August 12 and we will return to campus at 12:00pm on Sunday, August 14.

Who goes to Eagle Camp?

Eagle Camp is open to any new students who will be attending UNT in the fall. This includes both Freshman and Transfer students. Current students and staff will also be in attendance. Eagle Camp is for all types of people. We have activities that cater to different personality types and work on team-building and making connections, so don't miss out!

Why should I attend Eagle Camp?

You get a head-start on meeting new people, making friends, and becoming a part of the UNT family. 93% of the people who attended last year said they would recommend it! So maybe the question should be, "Why shouldn't I attend Eagle Camp?"

Does Eagle Camp conflict with sorority recruitment?

Eagle Camp DOES NOT conflict with Panhellenic's sorority recruitment.

How much does it cost?

The cost of Eagle Camp is only $175 if you register before July 1st! After July 1, it is $200. Make sure to register early!

What if I don't like camps or the outdoors?

Lucky for you, Eagle Camp has such diverse activities that you have many options on the activities in which you participate. Eagle Camp is NOT a camping trip—you will be staying in air-conditioned cabins which have bunk beds and clean restrooms.

If you choose not to spend a lot of time outdoors, there are plenty of indoor activities to beat the heat at Eagle Camp. During open activity time, you can choose to lay out at the pool, play some games, hang out in the shaded pavilion, or choose from many other activities!

Do I need to bring extra money?

Yes, it is a good idea to bring some cash if you plan to purchase any snacks from the snack shack or vending machines. All other activities and meals are included in the cost of Eagle Camp.

What do I bring to camp?

  • Clothes for three days, two nights in the Texas heat
  • Comfortable, closed-toe shoes
  • Pillow and sleeping bag or twin sheets
  • Flashlight
  • One-piece swimsuit and towel
  • Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
  • Toiletries and a towel
  • Insect repellent
  • Change for soft drink machine

What do I not bring to camp?

Any items that are extremely important to you or expensive should probably be left at home. Any alcohol, drugs or weapons of any kind (including pocket knives) are not allowed at camp. We take this issue very seriously, and if you are caught with any of these items, you will be sent home without a refund and referred to the Dean of Students.

What if I have more questions?
