  11. McClure: families need intense support because don't know how to navigate system when kid removed, need support getting off drugs and such

  12. That program is good because the people who visit families aren't with CPS, which might make families feel more comfortable, Patel said.

  13. A home visiting program - Safe Care - works really well. It's for families with kids under 5, Patel says.

  14. Dimple Patel, also from TexProtects, is a former caseworker. Now she's a policy analyst for this group, which is a child advocacy nonprofit

  15. Caseworkers should be held accountable, she says, but for child safety outcomes, not paperwork failures.

  16. Madeline McClure, executive director of TexProtects, says that thousands of kids are reabused.

  17. It's very helpful to identify risk or recurrance of abuse/problems, she said. The data is already there. Just needs to be accessed.
