Farm to Market Road 306 serves as the primary carrier route for those headed to historic Gruene or recreational Canyon Lake. In fact, about 20,000 cars use FM 306 from Interstate 35, and about 8,000 of those cars continue to the Canyon Lake area.

Since 2010, TxDOT has added turn lanes and passing lanes on FM 306 north of Canyon Lake with the promise of more on the way. In 2012, funding was secured through local partnerships to build bridges over Union Pacific Rail Road tracks near I-35.

The overpasses at the UPRR crossings will take two years and include the addition of roadway lanes on FM 306. When finished, the road will feature two lanes in each direction up to Hunter Road and no longer require road traffic to interact with rail traffic. This work began early 2013.
