TxDOT is currently in the public involvement process to identify potential improvements to I-820 from the north interchange at SH 121 to Randol Mill Road and SH 121 from Handley-Ederville Road to the I-820/SH 121 interchange.

Proposed improvements to I-820 received a Finding of No Significant Impact on March 18, 2004. These improvements included additional general purpose lanes, a reversible High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane along I-820 from Trinity Boulevard to the north SH 121 interchange, and along SH 121 from Handley-Ederville Road to I-820. Direct connections to/from I-820 and SH 121 to the proposed Trinity Freeway were also included. The Trinity Freeway was removed from the regional Metropolitan Transportation Plan Mobility 2030 in June 2007.

Proposed Improvements

Proposed improvements include additional general purpose lanes and bi-directional toll managed lanes along I-820. These lanes will run from the north interchange at SH 121 to Trinity Boulevard, and along SH 121 from west of Handley-Ederville Road to the I-820/SH 121 interchange with direct connections to/from I-820 general purpose lanes and SH 121 general purpose lanes to Trinity Boulevard. Connectivity from the Trinity Railway Express Richland Hills Station to the managed lane facility along SH 121 is also proposed through access ramps.
