The US 281 bridge replacement project over Lake Marble Falls is currently underway. TxDOT is replacing the 1930’s steel bridge with two new concrete structures.

Once the project is fully complete, the two new concrete bridges will allow for safer travel. Currently, traffic is traveling on the northbound bridge, two lanes in each direction, while the existing bridge is being demolished and rebuilt for the future southbound structure. Ultimately, each new bridge will have the following:

• Two mainlanes for traffic
• Two shoulders
• A sidewalk for use by pedestrians and bicyclists

The estimated construction cost for the project is $29.7 million.

Project Timeline

• December 2010 - Construction on the northbound bridge begins
  
• December 2012 - Northbound bridge opens to motorists
• February 2013 - Traffic on old southbound steel bridge moved to northbound bridge so that demolition of old bridge can begin
• March 17, 2013 - Old steel bridge demolished
  
• April 2013 - Demolition of old bridge is completed; construction of new concrete bridge will begin
• Fall 2014 - New concrete bridge completion anticipated
