RM 620 Feasibility Study

Ranch-to-Market Road (RM) 620 runs 23.2-miles from SH 71 in Bee Cave, Travis County to I-35 in Round Rock, Williamson County. The road has major intersections with SH 71, RM 2222, US 183, SH 45 and I-35.

RM 620 provides primary access to the southern Lake Travis area of Travis County and the southernmost tip of Williamson County. Through most of its length, RM 620 functions as both a local thoroughfare and commuter highway. In many cases, it is the sole access to subdivisions, businesses and schools. It is also the primary access route to Lake Travis area recreation facilities.

Study Location

This feasibility study will only deal with an 18.8-mile segment from SH 71W to US 183N.

Current Conditions

Travis County’s rapid growth has placed increased demand on this already congested highway. The Hill Country terrain, limited route alternatives, constrained rights of way and environmental sensitivity will challenge potential solutions.

Proposed Improvements

Planning for RM 620 will address short-, mid- and long-term needs; however, currently no funding is available for any improvements. TxDOT will work with local communities and residents to determine the need and feasibility for proposed improvements to serve existing and future growth.

Get Involved

Because the future functionality of RM 620 is critical to the communities it serves, TxDOT desires input from users about their needs, concerns and ideas for the highway’s future. TxDOT will use information gathered from the community to help shape proposals for appropriate improvements.

TxDOT’s 12 to 18 month study will identify problems and investigate the feasibility of various short-, mid- and long-term solutions. The community is encouraged to participate in this outreach effort to address all needs and concerns.
