Martin R. Smith, P.E., is the district engineer for TxDOT's Childress District.

The district comprises 13 counties: Briscoe, Childress, Collingsworth, Cottle, Dickens, Donley, Foard, Hall, Hardeman, King, Knox, Motley and Wheeler.

A 28-year TxDOT veteran, Smith has spent his entire career in the Childress District. Since 1999, he has served as the TP&D Director, where he was responsible for two of the largest projects ever let by the district during his tenure.

Smith worked as a summer employee for four summers and joined TxDOT full time in 1984 as an engineering assistant in the Childress Area Office. In 1995 he was selected as district design engineer.

He earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University in 1984 and became a licensed engineer in 1989. He is a Childress native and graduated from Childress High School.
