Bryan District Engineer

Lance W. Simmons, P.E.

Lance W. Simmons, P.E., serves as the district engineer for TxDOT's Bryan District.

The district comprises Brazos, Burleson, Freestone, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker and Washington counties. Simmons is responsible for all areas of the district's multimodal transportation network.

Simmons oversees the planning, designing, building, operation and maintenance of the state transportation system for the 10-county Bryan District. He served as the Atlanta District's Director of Operations from 2010 to February 2014.

A 21-year TxDOT veteran, Simmons officially began his career with the department in 1994 in the Atlanta District's Design Office (after working for three summers in the Atlanta Area Office). Through the Young Engineers Rotation Program, he also worked in the Advance Planning, Traffic and Atlanta Area Offices. From 2001 to 2009, he served as the District's Bridge/Special Projects Engineer before being selected as its Director of Operations in 2010.

In 2014, Simmons was honored with the 2014 Luther DeBerry Award at the Transportation Short Course. As a Terry Scholar at Texas A&M University, he earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1994, and he received his license as a professional engineer in February 2001.
