TxDOT and the City of San Antonio will be improving Spur 53 (UTSA Boulevard) from I-10 to Babcock Road for vehicles and pedestrians. The improvements are needed to accommodate increasing traffic and the growth of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).

Proposed Improvements

• From Babcock Road to UTEX Boulevard: Expand from a two-lane roadway to four-lane roadway with curb, storm sewer, and pedestrian and bicycle accommodations
• From UTEX Boulevard to I-10: Existing four lanes - restripe existing outside lane to serve as shared use lane and add sidewalk on south side of roadway
• Provide medians from Babcock Road to Edward Ximenes Avenue
