San Antonio District Engineer

Mario R. Jorge, P.E., is the district engineer for TxDOT's San Antonio District.

The district includes 12 counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Uvalde and Wilson.

Jorge began his TxDOT career in 1983 as a summer intern. In 1984 he was hired as an engineering assistant in the Dallas District. Jorge transferred to the Pharr District in 1985 where he held various engineering positions including assistant district design engineer. In 1990, he moved to the Pharr Area Office. There he served as project engineer for the US 83/281 interchange in Pharr for which he received the Design Award in 1993. He was appointed Pharr area engineer in 1993, managing an average of 30 construction contracts totaling more than $200 million. He served as the Pharr district engineer from 2002 to 2013, leading the efforts to expand US 77, US 83 and US 281 to interstate standards, which resulted in the designations of more than 100 miles of I-69-E, I-69-C and I-2.

Jorge served on numerous transportation committees such as the three metropolitan planning organizations in the Valley.

A native of Havana, Cuba, Jorge earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984. He received his professional engineer's license in 1988.
