The Wurzbach Parkway extension project completes a road nearly 35 years in the making. When complete, the extension will connect Interstate 10 to Interstate 35, offering commuters a third east-west corridor option in addition to Loop 410 and Loop 1604. The project is broken up into three segments, with work beginning on the segments from January to August 2011.

The final segment – a 1.7-mile stretch consisting mostly of bridge work between West Avenue and Jones-Maltsberger – is scheduled to be complete in 2015. The other two segments are set to finish mid-2013.

The $146 million combined project includes improvements to West Avenue, U.S. Highway 281 and Starcrest. New on- and off-ramps will be built at Blanco Road, West Avenue, U.S. 281, Jones-Maltsberger and Starcrest. Additional access points will be built at Vista Del Norte, North Loop Road and the San Antonio Brush Recycling Center.

This roadway will accommodate an estimated 40,000 cars daily.
