Greg Malatek, P.E., is the district engineer for TxDOT's Austin District.

The district comprises 11 counties: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Gillespie, Hays, Lee, Llano, Mason, Travis and Williamson.

Malatek started his TxDOT career in 1984 as a summer hire in the Yoakum District. His return to the Austin District is a homecoming, since he spent five and a half years in the South Travis Area Office from 1987 to 1992.

After two years with TxDOT's research office and later as the district design engineer for the Amarillo District, Malatek went to San Antonio to serve as assistant area engineer and area engineer from 1994 to 2010 in the New Braunfels and Seguin Area Offices. During that time, he supervised day-to-day operations of various engineering groups and maintenance sections, as well as expansion of Interstate 35 in New Braunfels.

In 2010, Malatek accepted the deputy district engineer position for the Waco District. There he managed the interstate widening project between Salado and Hillsboro. In addition, he worked extensively with federal, state and local agencies as well as with two Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and business leaders to meet the local transportation needs.
