These men stopped working so they could pay their respects as a funeral procession went by in Lumberton, Tx. It touched my heart and I hope these men know their kind gesture did not go unnoticed

TxDOT’s Denton Area Maintenance Office helped the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department this week in removing more than 1,000 tons of silt and dirt from parking lots and roads at the Greenbelt Corridor of the Lake Ray Roberts State Park.

Flood waters earlier this year pushed dirt and sand into the park, covering several parking areas, roads and pathways. The 20-mile multi-use Greenbelt Corridor runs from the Ray Roberts Dam to Lake Lewisville, along the Elm Fork Branch of the Trinity River. Horse riders can use 12 miles of the trail, while 10 miles are for hike and bike use only.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Quinlan. Sheri has worked in TxDOT's Aviation Division for the past 21 years. She recently took charge in entering TxDOT’s Aviation Division in the Blanket Hearts Challenge. Sheri and her co-workers vowed to make more than 40 no-sew blankets in their spare time, and succeeded! The blankets will now be donated to the children of fallen heroes at the Snowball Express 2015 in Dallas, Texas on December 12. Sheri took the time to teach her coworkers how to make the no-sew blankets so they could reach their goal. Way to go, Sheri!

Flashback Friday!

This black and white photo from 1930 shows members of the State Highway Patrol in front of the Capitol before taking up their posts throughout the state. Originally the State Highway Patrol was part of the State Highway Department, prior to the Texas Department of Public Safety being established by the Texas legislature in 1935.

We continue to enjoy our partnership with law enforcement across the state to this day!

***** Amarillo District Traffic Alert *****

The southbound lanes of US 287 south of the city of Dumas in Moore County are shut down while DPS Troopers investigate a fatal crash that occurred there earlier this morning. Traffic coming south out of Dumas is being rerouted to alternative roads. Expect delays at least through the rest of the morning.

Statement from Tryon D. Lewis, Texas Transportation Commission Chairman in response to the recent directive from the Office of the Governor Greg Abbott:

“As Chairman of the Texas Transportation Commission, I want to thank Governor Abbott for his clear vision and leadership in tackling traffic congestion. I wholeheartedly embrace Governor Abbott’s initiative. I especially appreciate him laying the foundation for his initiative by working closely with the legislature to provide an historic increase in transportation funding during the past legislative session. It is now up to TxDOT, working collaboratively with local communities, to execute on the Governor’s vision.”

At the annual Brazoria County Infrastructure Summit, I issued a directive to the Texas Transportation Commission to identify and address the state’s most congested chokepoints and get roads built ASAP.
