FM 2493 - Old Jacksonville Highway

TxDOT and the Tyler Metropolitan Planning Organization have allocated construction funds for improvements to FM 2493 between FM 2813 at Gresham and FM 346 at Flint, south of Tyler. Improvements to address congestion and safety include:

  • Widen the highway from two lanes to four with designated bike lanes
  • Add center left turn lane
  • Add sidewalks
  • Add curbs and gutters
  • Improve visibility at Spruce Hill Road

The project will require the acquisition of new right of way.

Schedule

  • A review of possible impacts the project could have on the environment (Environmental Assessment) is underway
  • A public hearing is scheduled for April 16, 2015
  • Environmental clearance from the Federal Highway Administration is expected in the summer of 2015
  • Right-of-way acquisition will begin in 2016
  • Right-of-way acquisition and construction plans should be complete in 2018
  • Current financial forecasts show construction funds available in 2020

Get Involved

A public meeting was held on Dec. 10, 2013 to present the technically preferred alternative. TxDOT presented Alternative No. 1 as the technically preferred alignment. After reviewing public comments from the meeting, bike lanes have been added to the schematic layout, which will be presented at a public hearing on April 16, 2015.
