Welcome to the SH 71 Express Project Website.

State Highway 71 (SH 71) is one of Austin's most important roadways. It connects drivers to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA), Bastrop, and other central Texas communities. Since 1990, traffic between Presidential Boulevard and SH 130 has increased by 158 percent; however, no significant improvements have been made to the roadway at this location. The Capitol Area Metropolitan Planning Organization projects that by 2035, traffic volume will reach at least 70,000 vehicles per day. Mobility improvements to SH 71, from Presidential Boulevard to SH 130, are currently being studied by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in cooperation with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority) to enhance safety and reduce congestion and travel time along this corridor.
