Study Description

The project scope includes widening and improving Farm-to-Market Road 521 (Almeda Road) from Beltway 8 to FM 2234 (McHard Road) in Harris and Fort Bend counties.

Current Conditions

FM 521 is currently a two-lane rural undivided roadway.

Proposed Improvements

• Reconstruct and widen FM 521 to a four-lane divided urban roadway from Beltway 8 to south of FM 2234
• Construct proposed "grade separations" on FM 2234; this means FM 2234 will be elevated and will cross over FM 521 at the Missouri Pacific Railroad crossings

The proposed project is expected to improve safety, enhance mobility and accommodate current and future growth, and improve railroad/local traffic crossings. Approximately 13.2 acres of additional right of way (ROW) and one business relocation would be required.
