Date: July 14, 2015

AUSTIN – Proposed mobility improvements to I-35 at Riverside Drive, from south of Holly Street to north of Oltorf Drive, will be the highlight of a public meeting hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the city of Austin, on July 21, 2015 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at Martin Middle School cafeteria, located at 1601 Haskell Street in Austin.

The purpose of the $110-million project is to improve mobility and safety on I-35 and enhance intersection operations. The project improvements under consideration include:

  • Reconstructing the I-35 mainlanes and frontage roads to improve sight distance
  • Adding collector-distributor lanes under Riverside Drive to allow north and south through-traffic to bypass traffic signals
  • Replacing the bridge crossings at Riverside Drive and Woodland Avenue
  • Widening the I-35 bridges over Lady Bird Lake to accommodate collector-distributor lanes and widened shoulders
  • Reconfiguring intersection lanes
  • Improving bicycle and pedestrian facilities along the I-35 frontage roads, Woodland Avenue and Riverside Drive

The public meeting will allow citizens the opportunity to review and comment on the proposed project, which is part of the overall Mobility35 program. Displays will be available for review and staff will be present to answer questions. While attendees are invited to come-and-go at their convenience, a group presentation will be given at 6 p.m., followed by a question and answer session.

Those unable to attend the meeting in-person can offer input online at a virtual open house that will run from July 21 to August 3, 2015. More information about the project and a link to the online meeting will be available at www.My35.org/Capital.
