Integrated Corridor Management

ICM is the integrated management of transportation infrastructure within a corridor. A corridor is managed as a system by transportation operators working collaboratively across agencies. An ICM strategy is currently being developed for I-35 through a partnership of:

  • TxDOT
  • City of Austin
  • Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority
  • Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority
  • Texas A&M Transportation Institute
  • Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
  • University of Texas Center for Transportation Research

ICM is a tool in the congestion management toolbox that combines technology and innovative practice. ICM helps optimize mobility by collecting and sharing real-time information with the traveling public to better manage traffic during:

  • Peak-period congestion
  • Incidents
  • Special events
  • Construction delays
  • Weather events

ICM utilizes a number of tools and technologies to better manage traffic, including:

  • ​Improved data collection
  • Improved roadway monitoring
  • Improved communications to the traveling public
  • Enhanced operations and agency coordination
