As part of our efforts to be the best in public service and oversight for a better environment tomorrow, we welcome suggestions for
audits and evaluations as well as any input relating to our notification memo topics.
Audits and evaluations provide accountability and transparency for government programs.
They provide objective analysis and information for agency decision makers.
We conduct audits and evaluations
of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) activities, contracts, grants and programs that examine ways in which EPA
management can improve program performance and operations, reduce costs, and improve public accountability. We also
serve as the Inspector General for the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board. Your suggestions will
be considered as the Office of Inspector General considers new projects.

EPA needs your help. Please let us know about potentially harmful environmental activities in your community or workplace.
The mission of EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA) is to improve the environment and protect human health by ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations, preventing pollution and promoting environmental stewardship. An effective environmental protection system requires a strong and vigorous enforcement program. Using an appropriate combination of enforcement and compliance assistance, we and our partners prevent and reduce pollution, thereby protecting human health and the environment.
Report a Suspected Environmental Violation
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides that any person has a right to obtain access to Federal agency records, except to the extent that such records are protected from public disclosure by one of nine exemptions. The Privacy Act (PA) provides access to one of ten nondisclosure documents except for those protected by the exemptions. The PA protects from disclosure all personal identifiable records in the Government’s possession, with certain exceptions established by statute.
Anyone can file a FOIA request. Any citizen or lawfully-admitted alien can file a PA request. Either type of request must be made in writing or submitted in an electronic format. The EPA OIG does not accept requests by phone.
Once an agency receives a FOIA request, the agency has 20 working days to make a decision on the request.
1. FOIAonline (Preferred / Fastest Method)
FOIAonline allows you to electronically submit FOIA requests, modify requests, communicate with the EPA about the
status of a request, search previously submitted requests, view responsive documents that are cleared for
release, access a dashboard with information about the status of a request, and file an appeal.
Access FOIAonline at https://foiaonline.regulations.gov
2. Postal Mail / Fax
FOIA and PA requests for EPA OIG records can be sent directly to the EPA OIG FOIA Officer by mailing a request to:

3. Email
Requests can also be submitted directly to the EPA OIG by emailing a request to OIG_FOIA@epa.gov or directly from this Web site using the form and instructions below.
Provide a description of the records you are seeking in a way that will permit the OIG to identify and locate them. If you are seeking records relating to a facility, site, or regulated entity, please include the complete name and address of each property you are inquiring about.
FOIA requires that agencies have a “reading room” to inspect publicly available documents. The reports webpage is available to serve this purpose, here on our public website.
