Ozark Mountain Regional Treatment Plant in Arkansas to Serve More Than 20,000 Residents

Lead Hill, Ark., Aug. 27, 2013 – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the completion of the 500th water and wastewater project funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The announcement was made on the Secretary's behalf in Lead Hill, Ark., by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service Administrator John Padalino. "I am proud to celebrate this important milestone," Padalino said. "The Recovery Act has brought improved water and wastewater services to nearly 1.7 million rural residents. These projects have created jobs, stimulated local economies and helped ensure that rural residents have the modern, up-to-date infrastructure that rural communities need so they can continue to be great places in which to live and work."

​Major Dallas Project Opens Nine Months Ahead of Schedule

DALLAS – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez today joined state and local officials at the opening of the DFW Connector, the $1 billion roads project designed to help drivers navigate better and avoid congestion as they travel to and around the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.  The DFW Connector received $260 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the largest highway investment from the Recovery Act.  According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the project created more than 500 jobs and was finished nine months ahead of schedule.

​WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) today announced that the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has begun construction on rail safety improvement projects along the North Carolina Railroad’s Piedmont Corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte. This series of projects are part of the Piedmont Improvement Program, supported by a $520 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 grant, and will enhance safety for train travelers, motorists and pedestrians, while laying the foundation for a higher-performing freight and passenger rail network.

​Cody, Nebraska, May 24, 2013 -- Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman celebrated today with Cody residents at the grand opening of the Circle C Market in Cody, Nebraska. USDA Rural Development staff attended to present the Village of Cody with a plaque commemorating its use of federal funding to construct the business incubator. “USDA Rural Development was pleased to assist the Village of Cody with its business development efforts,” said Business and Cooperative Specialist Deborah Drbal, USDA Rural Development. “It is phenomenal how this project was embraced with enthusiasm from the community and youth.”

​USDA Also Invested $24 Million in 2010 to Help Community Expand Hospital

Belmond, Iowa, Apr 22, 2013 -- Bill Menner, USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa, was in Belmond today to congratulate community leaders on receiving a $5.5 million loan from USDA that will help them make improvements to their wastewater treatment facility. Today’s announcement is one part of the Department’s efforts to strengthen the rural economy. The presentation coincides with Earth Day, an annual observation on April 22nd to raise awareness about the role each person can play to protect vital natural resources and safeguard the environment.
