The U.S. Senate today approved a three-month extension of the current transportation funding bill. House and Senate leaders have indicated this time period will be used to develop and pass a long-term transportation funding bill.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) earlier today spoke to the importance of funding, “When goods can flow freely across the roads and the highways and the freight lines in our state, it helps improve our economy and create a more favorable condition fo...r jobs.”

Texas Transportation Commissioners also stated their appreciation.

“We are grateful Congress has taken steps this week to preserve our transportation programs, and for Senator Cornyn’s leadership as Senate Majority Whip to steer this legislation through the U.S. Senate today,” said Commissioner J. Bruce Bugg, Jr.

“The passage of this measure will ensure the continuation of our state’s important transportation projects,” said Commissioner Jeff Austin III. “It is critical that Congress passes a bill providing long-term, reliable funding with the flexibility to allow states to plan accordingly with their needs and priorities.”

TxDOT will continue to deliver projects that have been planned and approved using state resources.

In Texas, good infrastructure and a working highway system are important for our economy to create more favorable conditions for jobs. The resources provided in this bill will make the lives of Texans better—with no tax increases.

TxDOT earned an award in the “Under Budget” category from America’s Transportation Awards for the Western Region States at the Washto 2015 Annual Meeting for its cost-saving and project efficiency efforts during the funding and construction of the North Tarrant Express project. Congrats team!
