We’re looking for a few good Veterans … and their dogs.
“It was like night and day for me when Adonis entered my life,” Veteran Joel Richardson said about his service dog.

After I left the Navy in 1967, I visited the Chicago VA five times. Each time, my medical records were lost. So, I went to a civilian hospital, for my ulcer problem.

What you don't see in the headlines are the thousands of dedicated federal employees at VA that work hard every day to provide outstanding care for our Veterans. This Public Service Recognition Week we thank them all for their skill and dedication to improving and strengthening our care for Veterans.

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month and throughout the month we’ll be bringing you the stories of Asian-Pacific Americans who bravely served their country.

Today we honor Susan Ahn Cuddy, the first Asian American woman to enlist in the U.S. Navy and the first female gunnery officer to train Naval pilots. She eventually became a Lieutenant and went on to work for Naval Intelligence, garnering many firsts for Asian Americans and women in the military. In 1947 Susan joined the National Security Agency in D.C., where she worked on many top secret projects for the Department of Defense and other agencies until 1959. For many years Susan had the highest security clearance of any Asian in the United States.

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, which ended the Vietnam War. During the lead up to its fall, Saigon was evacuated by many Servicemembers who flew into the city to rescue American and Vietnamese citizens. While the Fall of Saigon concluded with a U.S. retreat, many brave men and women risked life and limb to save their countrymen.

We remember them today and every day.
