Cute Alert! TxDOT employee Mitch Adair was working on median on SH 71 in Bastrop when he noticed something in the gutter. When he got closer he realized it was an injured dog in a puddle of water. Someone had apparently hit the dog with their vehicle. When Mitch called to the dog, she raised her head and wagged her tail. She hobbled over to Mitch and crawled under his truck. Mitch called the Bastrop Animal Hospital, who then turned her over to Hardy-Hayes Refuge.

Hardy-Hayes Refuge says the vet had to amputate her leg, but it looks like the dog is going to make a full recovery and has been given the name “Katie Mae.” They best part is that Mitch and his family have asked to adopt her. Great job to TxDOT’s Mitch for going above and beyond to help rescue Katie Mae from the gutter and give her a forever home!
