May 17-19, 2015

Courtyard by Marriott San Antonio Sea World/Westover Hills
11605 State Highway 151
San Antonio, TX 78251

Car crashes are the #1 killer of youth in America. The Teens in the Driver Seat – TDS Summit will showcase student leaders in bringing awareness about this problem to their peers, their families and their community. Come learn more about this epidemic and latest innovative solutions to combat it. Activities will be available for teens, teachers, school administrators, families, law enforcement, safety practitioners, industry and more. Join us as we celebrate the accomplishment of driving down the fatality rate in Texas while still working to save more lives, across the state and nation.

Highlighted at the Summit will be the rapidly-growing Teens in the Driver Seat® (TDS) program, which is a peer-to-peer education and outreach program that has, for over 10 years, been active in over 800 high schools and junior high schools across Texas, Georgia, California, Connecticut, Nebraska, Montana and North Carolina. Come meet our Teen Advisory Board members along with award-winning TDS Teams and learn how our youth are taking a leadership role in helping stop the #1 killer of teens in the United States.

CPE (Continuing Professional Education) Credit Workshop

New this year! Are you a teacher/safety administrator required to obtain mandatory training hours each year? Meet some of your required hours this year at the TDS Summit by attending "Teen Traffic Safety Education: Creating a Traffic Safety Culture at Your School." This continuing professional education session focuses on the top five driving risks that contribute to the number one cause of teen deaths in America: car crashes. Attendees will receive information related to nighttime/drowsy driving, speeding/racing, distractions, seat belt use and impaired driving along with information on a lifesaving program called Teens in the Driver Seat®. Presenters will utilize higher-order thinking strategies through hands-on lessons and activities while also applying differentiated instruction designed to engage attendees with all types of learning styles. Participants will also gain access to various free resources related to traffic safety education in order to facilitate the creation of a traffic safety culture at their school. This CPE will provide 1.5 credit hours. Sign-up is limited to the first 25 adults. This special CEU session will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. CST. Registration for the TDS Summit is required to participate in this special session. To sign up, contact Lisa Minjares at l-minjares@ttimail.tamu.edu. Spaces will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis — so please sign up early!
