"I get a lot of feedback on him and about him," Showalter said. "I don't sit here and go down a list. I'm going to leave him alone. I asked (third base coach) Bobby Dickerson on the phone today, and he said it's the best he's felt in a long time right now. It's good to hear.
"He's probably not real happy about having to make the trek over here. He doesn't have to make the trek. It's completely voluntary. That's what I told him on the phone."

"It's too early to tell when I'll be 100 percent, but it's a good thing there are seven weeks until spring," Jay said. "That extra 10 days (before spring workouts start this year) is huge. I've already been working. I feel good. I have the time I need. I expect to be ready."
Jay, who is lining up to be the team's starting center fielder, said he expects to participate without limitations at the beginning of spring training.
"Everything looks good," Jay said. "Getting back to full strength is the next step. I don't anticipate anything that would slow me down. I'm optimistic."

Prior to joining the Orioles' coaching staff, Coolbaugh worked in the Rangers' organization and worked with Davis in the minors leagues, when Davis was with Texas. Davis has welcomed Coolbaugh's addition as he is coming off a disappointing season in 2014.
"It's like anything else," Coolbaugh said. "I think it's getting back to the mental focus of where you want to be, where you come from, get back to that Chris Davis that we know. I think he's going to have a great year and I'm looking forward to spending time with him this year."
Coolbaugh hinted Davis might have put a little too much pressure on himself last season after he belted 53 home runs in 2013.
"Sometimes it's more of the mental thing, that you try to do too much, try to live up to what he did in 2013," he said. "You try to chase what you're doing and those things happen because of a process, not based on chasing results. I think he just got away from that probably a little bit and lost himself."

"I think James is a throwback guy by the way he goes about his business and the innings he pitches," Stewart said. "I think the fact that Tony (La Russa) is here and that we have more baseball people -- he probably sees us as a true baseball team vs. some of the other teams out here that are geared more toward analytics and those type of things.
"Sometimes, there are concessions the player will make to be here. It's the case that he likes what we're doing with our organization from our end, all we can hope is that there will be concessions enough that he can be here."
The Diamondbacks agreed to an $8.27 million signing bonus with Cuban pitcher Yoan Lopez on Tuesday. Stewart said the signing puts the Diamondbacks' payroll around $106 million, adding Arizona might have to shed some salary.
"The truth is, I haven't even thought about how," Stewart said. "We'll look at the numbers and look at who we'll have to possibly subtract, if that's what we have to do.
"I would like to be (under $100 million). I've not been told to be, but I would like to be."
