2013 NFL Power Rankings: Week 10

It's safe to say the Jets opened the season as afterthoughts.

Heading into Week 1, Rex Ryan's seemingly dysfunctional bunch resided at the very bottom of our hierarchy (yes, even below Jacksonville). Now, as we enter Week 10, our voters (John Clayton, Ashley Fox, Dan Graziano, Jamison Hensley, Mike Sando and Kevin Seifert) hold the Jets in much higher regard. After an impressive victory over the high-powered Saints, New York sits at No. 14, its high-water mark of 2013.

The Jets aren't the only ones in the midst of an impressive rise to respectability. The Panthers, who started the regular season at No. 23, have jumped to No. 12 after four straight wins. The Titans, who opened at No. 27, have clawed their way up to No. 16. The Lions, No. 21 at the start, round out our top 10 for the second straight week.

Are any of these teams bound for the playoffs? It's still too early to tell, but each one -- especially the Jets -- has officially shed the afterthought label it had in September. That's a big first step.

Last Week: 2		Hopefully the Broncos rested on their bye, because Denver gets six straight games against teams currently at or above .500, including three of the next four on the road.

Last Week: 4		They can't play like that again. Seattle was the second team to win this season with a minus-3 turnover margin. Teams with a minus-3 turnover margin are 2-19 this season.

Last Week: 6		This will be a better game than you might think. Sunday's matchup against Carolina is one of two games this week with both teams at least two games over .500.

Last Week: 5		We get it, Jimmy Graham is awesome. But Drew Brees threw two interceptions and had two passes dropped by other receivers. With Marques Colston out, someone else needs to emerge.

Last Week: 9		Entering Sunday, only two teams this season had three players gain at least 120 yards from scrimmage in the same game. Four different Patriots reached that benchmark vs. Pittsburgh.

Last Week: 7		Thursday's sloppy loss was a step back. Bengals receivers dropped five of Andy Dalton's throws. That's Cincinnati's most in a game since Week 11 of the 2007 season.

Last Week: 14		Why did Chicago win the battle of the backups? Matt Forte ran for nine first downs, including five on the Bears' 18-play, 80-yard final drive. Will Jay Cutler join him Sunday?

Last Week: 10		The Lions, Packers and Bears are all 5-3, but only Detroit has a healthy Week 1 starter at quarterback. A win in Chicago puts Detroit squarely in the driver's seat.

Last Week: 8		Don't blame Seneca Wallace for the defense. The Packers allowed a season-high 113 rush yards before contact Monday night and Brandon Marshall topped 100 yards for the third time this season.

Last Week: 12		The Panthers won despite Cam Newton completing 1 of 9 passes at least 15 yards downfield for 21 yards and two interceptions, his first game this season with multiple deep picks.

Last Week: 13		Despite Sunday's return of DeMarco Murray, the Cowboys dropped back to pass on 87 percent of plays, most by any team in a game this season.

Last Week: 16		Geno Smith's eight completions were thrown a total of 7 yards downfield Sunday. Josh Cribbs' one completion was thrown more than twice as far (15 yards).

Last Week: 11		The Chargers couldn't convert three plays from the 1-yard line and lost in overtime. San Diego is 2-of-11 converting from the 1 this season, less than half the league average.

Last Week: 18		Chris Johnson gained 108 of his 152 rushing yards before first contact Sunday. Johnson hadn't gained 100 rushing yards in a game this season.

Last Week: 17		What to make of this 4-4 team? Three of the four losses were against the Seahawks, 49ers and Rams. Unfortunately, the Cards' division is Seahawks, 49ers and Rams.

Last Week: 21		Jason Campbell had a career-high three touchdowns against at least five pass-rushers Sunday. Browns quarterbacks had a total of five touchdowns against added pressure this season entering Week 9.

Last Week: 19		Everything after Thursday's win against the Bengals has been a mess in South Beach. Miami's problems will be squarely in focus this week, facing Tampa Bay on "Monday Night Football."

Last Week: 26		Chip Kelly says the Eagles' starting quarterback is still based on health. Maybe an eighth touchdown pass would have clinched the starting job for Nick Foles.

Last Week: 15		From 2009 to Week 8 this season, Ray Rice had never failed to reach 10 yards after contact with at least 10 rushes, something he's now done in back-to-back weeks.

Last Week: 24		Washington needed a career day from Pierre Garcon to beat San Diego. Garcon caught seven passes for a career-high 172 yards and five first downs.

Last Week: 20		Despite playing with Jeff Tuel at QB, C.J. Spiller finished with a season-high 155 yards from scrimmage Sunday, including season highs in rushing yards (116) and rush yards after contact (64).

Last Week: 22		After quintupling their season total of touchdown passes allowed at least 15 yards downfield, the Raiders head east to face the Giants and a once-formidable downfield passing attack.

Last Week: 25		Yikes! St. Louis ends its season against the Colts, Bears, 49ers, Cardinals, Saints, Bucs and Seahawks, a combined 35-22 so far. Not an easy schedule for a backup quarterback.

Last Week: 23		The Falcons gave the Panthers five first downs via penalties Sunday. Atlanta is the only team to concede five first downs via penalty in multiple games (Week 7 vs. Buccaneers).

Last Week: 27		We might have found rock bottom. Pittsburgh allowed 55 points and 610 yards of offense in a loss to the Patriots on Sunday, both the most in Steelers' history.

Last Week: 28		Case Keenum has completed 17 of 25 passes (68 percent) at least 10 yards downfield, the best of anyone with multiple attempts and 10 points higher than last year's top QB in this department (RG III).

Last Week: 29		Bye week jokes aside (best they've looked all season, etc.), the Giants host a battered Oakland defense next. That might be the recipe for rejuvenating Eli's downfield passing game.

Last Week: 30		After 140 rush yards in another loss, Adrian Peterson must get annoyed sometimes. Nick Foles had more TD passes in three quarters Sunday than Vikings quarterbacks have passed for all season.

Last Week: 31		Tampa Bay gained 172 yards on 31 designed rushes in the first three quarters Sunday, but only four of the Bucs' final 16 plays were designed rushes despite leading until late.

Last Week: 32		More fun stats with Jacksonville: The Jags have produced seven touchdowns this season, as many as the Chiefs' defense and special teams, or as many as 40:26 of Nick Foles on Sunday.
