The cause of the soldier's death was unclear. Tyler Broadway, a spokesman for Fort Hood, told the paper he wasn't sure whether the death was related to Ebola.

The soldier, who wasn't identified, reportedly returned to Fort Hood on Wednesday along with other soldiers from the same mission and they were put into isolation at North Fort Hood. However, the soldier was on emergency leave from the base and was visiting family at the time of his death, the paper reported.

“He was allowed to leave, but he had to self-monitor himself and send those results in twice a day," Broadway told the newspaper. The spokesman also noted that the Killeen Police Department hazmat team had responded to the scene.
