The Amarillo District of the Texas Department of Transportation banded together this holiday season to help make Christmas a little brighter for 47 kids at The Children's Home in Amarillo. The district delivered the gifts yesterday (12/17/14) in time for Christmas. Shown here are the district volunteers who delivered the gifts and coordinated the program, led by District Engineer Ron Johnston. District volunteers at first received information on the ages and Christmas wishes of 41 kids at the home ranging in ages from five to young adult. All of those wishes were met, but they soon learned of a family of six kids that would be arriving at the home just before Christmas, and volunteers went out and bought gifts for them as well! The Canyon, Hereford and Vega maintenance sections also provided six bicycles with matching helmets to be shared among the kids at the home. The Children's Home provides a loving and stable living environment for children and young adults who, for various reasons, have no home or family to care for them. This is the second year the Amarillo District has provided for these kids, who could really use a Merry Christmas in their lives. It is better to give than to receive, and the generosity of district employees once again has proven that point!
