En español | To qualify for a benefit on the work record of a former spouse, you must have been been married for at least 10 years; be currently unmarried; be at least 62 years old; and not be eligible for an equal or higher benefit on your own Social Security work record or on someone else's. If you were eligible for such a higher or equal benefit, that's what you would collect. The benefit for a divorced spouse is equal to up to one-half of the benefit of the worker spouse.
