Global leaders and advocates at the UN CSW: More than 140 million girls will marry between 2011 and 2020
At a panel discussion held during the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, global leaders including heads of UN agencies, members of Parliament, NGO heads, leaders from the faith-based community, and advocates gathered to discuss the issue of child marriage. Between 2011 and 2020, more than 140 million girls will become child brides, according to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). If current levels of child marriages hold, 14.2 million girls annually or 39 000 daily will marry too young. Furthermore, of the 140 million girls who will marry before they are 18, 50 million will be under the age of 15. Read the full press release. View photos from the event.

High-level commitment to save the lives of mothers and children in the EMRO Region
Delegates at a United Nations-convened high-level meeting January 29-30 in the Eastern Mediterranean Region have agreed to urgently accelerate progress on improving maternal and child health between now and the end of 2015 and to reduce the gap between current funding levels and those required to meet MDGs 4 and 5.
