STATEN ISLAND - Staten Island, where Eric Garner was killed, is unlike New York City's other boroughs. Its residents tend to be more conservative, and it is home to many of the city's active and retired police and firemen. PBS NewsHour's Stephen Fee reports from Staten Island on the local reaction to Eric Garner's death and yesterday's grand jury verdict.
GARNER - Outside of Staten Island, the Eric Garner case, like the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, speaks more broadly to national issues of race, law enforcement and justice. Gwen Ifill speaks to Zach Carter, the chief legal officer for New York City. She then examines these issues, and how they affect individuals across the country.
MILIATRY SEXUAL ASSAULTS - According to a new report, released by the Pentagon and based on a survey conducted by the Rand Corporation, estimated cases of sexual assault in the military are down by about 25 percent from two years ago. However, actual reports of sexual assault in the ranks have increased eight percent since last year. The survey also found that 60 percent of victims said they faced retaliation after reporting their assaults. Hari Sreenivasan has the details.
RUSSIAN REALITY TELEVISION - Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered his annual state of the nation speech today, trumpeting his country's incursions into Ukraine and annexation of Crimea. It is not the first time Putin has used television to assert his view of reality to the Russian people and to the world. His use of the medium is the subject of a new book, "Nothing Is True and Everything Is Possible," by Peter Pomerantsev. Pomerantsev is a Russian born British writer and television producer who returned to Moscow to create Russian reality television shows. Chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Warner sat down with Pomerantsev to discuss his new book.
SILICON BEACH - L.A. has the rock stars. San Francisco has the computer programmers who are treated like rock stars. But now, entrepreneurs are migrating from the Bay Area to Venice Beach. Steve Goldbloom has the story.
