- What is the recommended contribution for basic membership?
KQED basic membership is $40. A $25 membership is available to students, seniors and others with limited incomes.
- My employer participates in a matching-gift program, but requires verification of my contribution. Where can I get the forms and where do I send them?
The human resources department at your company should have the forms. Complete them and send them to KQED Matching Gifts, 2601 Mariposa Street, San Francisco, CA 94110. Many companies also give the option to have your gift matched through on-line gift verification process. Companies will match only the amount paid to KQED, therefore, if you paid your pledge by installments, KQED cannot verify your matching gift request until the pledge has been paid in full. Sustaining members should submit one request annually after they have made their final payment in the current calendar year. Further, companies will also only match the tax deductible amount of your contribution, so you may need to adjust your request based on whether or not your received a thank you gift in exchange for your contribution. - Does KQED fund raising support any other charities?
No, KQED does not raise funds for other nonprofit entities.
- Is my KQED membership tax deductible?

- Are there separate memberships for KQED TV and KQED FM?
Each member of KQED has only one membership. However, the contributions you make to FM or TV are kept separate on your membership, as well as in the overall budgeting of the organization.
- What do I do if I wish both the radio and TV stations to receive part of my yearly gift?
If you make a pledge of support during an FM Fundraising drive, that donation will go towards our radio budget. If you make a pledge of support during a TV Fundraising drive, that money goes to our TV budget. Otherwise your general donation (in response to renewals etc.) is used for both. You may make requests to have your support used strictly for TV or for FM by calling Member Services at (415) 553-2150 or emailing us at member@kqed.org.
- How do I arrange for a tour of the TV studio or radio station for a group or organization? What days and times are possible? Is there a limit to the size of the group?
Call the KQED Tour Phone at (415) 553-2849. Generally, groups tour on Friday mornings and are limited to about 20 people, but other arrangements can be made.
- Can I get discounts using my KQED MemberCard?
KQED membership entitles you to a variety of benefits. There are discounts at many restaurants — including Check Please! Bay Area restaurants, car rentals and lodging, cultural events, science and nature exhibits, performing arts presentations, wonderful retail establishments and online stores and many other attractions in Northern California and beyond. - I am trying to reduce my paper waste. Can I have email-only notifications?
Yes, please call our Member Services at (415) 553-2150 or email us at member@kqed.org and tell us that you want to receive all communications available via email. Please make sure to include the correct email address and add KQED to your contacts list.
- How do I get a new Member Card?
Call Member Services at (415) 553-2150 or email us at member@kqed.org and let us know that you need a new Member Card.
- How can I find out when my Membership expires?
If you receive the printed On Q member magazine, the expiration date of the membership is printed on the label. You may also become a Sustaining Member. Sustaining Members make ongoing monthly contributions, with automatic yearly renewal. If you would like to find out when your membership expires, or to become a Sustaining member, please call Member Services at (415) 553-2107 or email us at member@kqed.org.
- Can I sponsor a membership for someone else?
Yes, you can purchase a Gift Membership for someone else. You pay for the membership (at any level) and the other person receives the benefits. Call (415) 553-2150 and a Member Services Representative will assist you.
- Can I make a gift in memory of another individual?
Yes. Send your contribution to Memorials C/O KQED Membership Department, 2601 Mariposa Street, San Francisco, CA 94110. Provide the name and address of the individual. Acknowledgements will be sent to the donor and the person named who inspired the gift (if appropriate). You may also go online to print out a form to fill out and fax to us at (415) 553-2349.
- Is my membership transferable to the PBS or NPR station in another city?
No. Each station is independent and maintains its own membership base.
- Does KQED exchange names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses from its membership list?

- How can I donate without becoming a Member?
If you would like to make a donation without becoming a member, please state that you do not want to receive any membership materials.
- How can I make an anonymous donation?
You may make anonymous donations via check or charge by calling Member Services at (415) 553-2150, by mail or by our online donation page. Simply state that you would like your donation to be anonymous. If you need a tax letter at the end of the year, we will have to take your name and mailing address.
- How can I include KQED in my will or living trust?
You can make a gift (bequest) to KQED through your will or living trust by designating a percentage of your total estate, the residue or a portion of the residue, or a specific dollar amount. - How can I give a gift of stock?

You can update your name, address, phone number and e-mail address as well as leave comments or questions by going to our Update Member Info form. Please do not use this form to provide KQED with a new Credit Card Number. If you need to update your credit card, please call the membership department at (415) 553-2150.
- I don't want to give you my phone number and/or email address on the Web. Why is it required?
KQED uses your email address for several reasons — mostly to contact you for Thank You gift shipping notifications or courtesy notices regarding the status of your Thank You gift. Your email and phone numbers are important to us so that we can contact you quickly to resolve issues with your membership as well. We also use these to contact you regarding renewing your membership as well, but you can certainly opt out at any time.
- What is Leadership Circle?
Leadership Circle is KQED's mid-level giving program. Members are entitled to all basic member benefits, plus invitations to special events, the Fall Preview Screening and private KQED facilities tours. For more information, call (415) 553-2345.
Leadership Circle membership starts at $150 per year, $12.50 per month.
- What is Signal Society?
The Signal Society is KQED's major donor program. This group of patrons enjoy a special relationship with KQED. Members are recognized through private gatherings, VIP tours and access to the Society's video library. For more information, call (415) 553-2300.
Signal Society membership starts at $1,500 per year, $125.00 per month.
- What is the Producer's Circle?
The Producer's Circle members donate $10,000 or more annually to provide core operations support and to fund KQED's initiative to expand and enhance local production Benefits include intimate events with public broadcasting personalities, on-air recognition and a dedicated KQED staff member to provide access to station personnel and programs that match your interest. - What is the Jonathan C. Rice Legacy Society?
The Jonathan C. Rice Legacy Society honors the philanthropic leadership and vision of individuals who have provided for the future of public broadcasting by making a Legacy Gift. Legacy Gifts include: bequests through a will or living trust; gifts that provide lifetime income, such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts and retirement plans or life insurance policies that name KQED as a beneficiary. Member benefits include special receptions, VIP tours and access to the KQED video library. - What is a Sustaining Membership?
Sustaining Members make recurring monthly contributions that continue until the donor notifies KQED that the contributions should be terminated. (Sustainers who give $12.50 or more also receive our Pledge-Free Stream during our radio pledge drives).

- Does KQED offer program schedules and information online?

- How can I receive or renew my subscription to San Francisco magazine?

- I am interested in a thank-you gift from a previous fundraising drive. Is it still possible to get it?
It is often possible to receive thank-you gifts from recent fundraising drives. Call Member Services at (415) 553-2150 and the Representative will tell you if the item is available and at what donation level.
- How can I order videotapes of previously aired programs?
If you are referring to a program that aired during a fundraising drive please e-mail member@kqed.org or call (415) 553-2150. For other programs, view our TV books & tapes pages for a comprehensive list of programs, their producers and purchasing information for companion products. If you don't find the program listed, call Audience Services at (415) 553-2135.
- Does a Newsweek subscription come with all memberships?
No, Newsweek is no longer offered as a KQED Thank-You Gift. If you wish to subscribe to the Online only Newsweek, please call (800) 546-7178.
- How long does it take to get my gift after I donate?
SHIPPING: Please allow two to six weeks after your first payment is received for delivery of your thank-you gift(s) as they are shipped using the most economical method, which may include using UPS or USPS. If you requested several gifts, it is possible that they will arrive in separate shipments.
TICKETS: If you requested tickets for a live performance or event, please be advised that you will receive your tickets approximately two weeks prior to the scheduled event. If you made a pledge for an event that is less than two weeks away, you will receive your tickets or admission instructions prior to the performance or event.

- What if I get the wrong gift or a damaged thank-you gift?

- What is "Fair Market Value"?
Fair market value (FMV) is generally the amount an item would typically be sold for in a voluntary transaction between a buyer and seller. The manufacturer or donor advises KQED of the FMV of our thank-you gifts.
- How long does it take for my pledge or payment to be processed?
We try to process donations as quickly as possible, but it might take up to 3-5 business days. However, during on-air fundraising drives, pledges and payments can take as long as 10 business days to process.
- I want to send a check/money order to KQED. Where do I send it?
You can send checks or money orders made out to KQED to KQED, PO Box 7618, San Francisco, CA 94120-7618. Please be sure to put your Member ID or Pledge number on the check to ensure we credit the correct account.
- How long does it take for my check to be processed?
In most cases, donations are processed within 3 - 5 business days. However, during on-air fundraising drives, donations can take as long as 10 business days to process.
- Why do we not utilize PayPal as a form of payment?
Due to privacy concerns, we cannot accept PayPal as a form of payment at this time.
- How can I make sure my donation gets credited to my existing Membership properly?
It is best to put your Member ID or Pledge ID on your check. If you are a member and have moved, please make sure that you include your new and old address so that we do not create a duplicate account.
- I am canceling my current credit card. How do I get the new credit card information to KQED in order to keep up my monthly payments?
Just call (415) 553-2150.
- I already renewed. Why am I still receiving renewal notices?
Sometimes your renewal payment gets posted to your membership after we have pulled the list of donors to send the next month's renewal notices. There may also be a duplicate account that may have been created in error. If you are concerned, contact us at (415) 553-2150 or e-mail member@kqed.org.
- I received a "Thank You" letter for donating above and beyond my annual Membership. What does this mean?
When you receive this notification, KQED is acknowledging your gift and informing you that we have not used that gift as your annual renewal. If this was not your intent, you can always call Member Services and we will update your account to reflect your recent gift as a renewal of your annual membership.
